SKIN REJUVENATION

The term ‘dull skin’ usually refers to tired-looking skin which has lost its natural glow. Dehydrated skin can also look dull, as can dark circles, thread veins, and age spots. Every day our skin is exposed to sunlight and other environmental stressors, which create spots and wrinkles, and can leave skin with a coarse, worn texture. Due to even hectic work routines and unhealthy lifestyle habits, most of us deprive our skin of the care it needs.
Skin rejuvenation is any treatment or method that is used to improve and refresh the skin. It involves cosmetic treatments that can make the face and skin appear more youthful. It helps to make one look and feel younger by improving the natural glow of the skin.

SKIN REJUVENATION

Skin rejuvenation treatments and products treat such skin issues as:

  • Sun damage
  • Wrinkles
  • Loose skin
  • Scars from acne, chicken pox, or injury
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven or dull skin tone

One can follow a basic skincare routine that involves cleaning, toning, moisturizing, and applying sunblock and yet would like to achieve a more glowing and poreless complexion, whereas, some can get early signs of ageing like fine lines and wrinkles right from their 30s. On top of these, there are dark spots, pigmentation, and sagging skin. The time when one should be extra careful as deeper skin issues can start bothering women are the forties.

Botulinum Toxin: Popularly known as Botox, is approved by the FDA for treating laugh lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and the creases between the brows, sometimes called “11 lines.”  This neurotoxic protein injection temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes and also prevents the future formation of deep lines. Botox results last 3 to 4 months and is needed to be repeated if required for a lasting effect.

Dermal Fillers:  Dermal fillers are injections of hyaluronic acid into the skin. The majority of the skin is made up of collagen bundles and a hydrating material between them. When these soft tissues are lost due to ageing, the skin becomes less taut resulting in folds, wrinkles, grooves, depressions, and sagging skin. Refiling these areas restores normal contours and rejuvenates the area and the face and even adds volume and fullness. These fillers plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases, remove wrinkles and improve the appearance of scars. Dermal filler results vary, depending on which filler is used.

Laser And Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Treatment: Intense Pulsed Light treatments utilize high energy light pulses to penetrate upper levels of skin and stimulate collagen production in lower levels of skin. The most common IPL treatment for pigmentation is BroadBand Light (BBL), which uses focused light energy to destroy pigment in cells. It is effective in eliminating broken capillaries, diffusing redness and can even fade birthmarks.

Ablative Laser Treatments: Ablative lasers are the most intense, and they involve removing layers of your skin. This is considered one of the best ways to deal with many of the most common skin concerns including wrinkles, age spots, sunspots, redness, rosacea, acne scarring, and much more. Laser therapy is effective for moderate and deep lines and wrinkles, and can improve skin tone, texture, and tightness.

Fractional Lasers: Fractional laser resurfacing, uses lasers to create tiny micro injuries in the skin in order for new skin to grow in its place. The laser removes the outer layers of damaged skin to reveal the softer and smoother underlying skin.

CO2 Lasers: This involves applying a layer of liquid carbon over the face, which penetrates deep into the pores. Carbon peels may be repeated every two to three weeks. This period of time allows for ample collagen regeneration between treatments.

Mechanical Ablation Treatments: This treatment uses surgical scraping methods to soften skin.

Dermabrasion: This is a skin-resurfacing procedure that uses a rapidly rotating device to remove the outer layer of skin. The skin is number by anesthetics before the procedure is done. The skin that grows back after is usually smoother. It might take about three months for your skin tone to return to normal.

Dermaplaning: Also referred to as Microplaning or Blading, it is a skin treatment that uses a specialized blade which similar to a surgical scalpel called a dermatome used to remove dead skin and hairs. After the treatment, one should take proper care to see improvement in their skin.

Non-Ablative Treatments: Non-ablative procedures, target the dermis to promote collagen growth and tightening effects.

Microdermabrasion: This is a less intense version of dermabrasion. It is performed by rubbing fine crystals into the skin using a device and takes about 30 minutes to perform. This treatment needs to be performed anywhere between 5-16 times in order to see lasting results. It can improve skin tone, skin complexion, sunspots, and acne scars.

Microneedling: This is a nonsurgical skin procedure where multiple sterilized ultra-thin needles are used to carefully pierce the top layer of the skin. The body interprets these tiny needle punctures as injuries and rushes the growth factors, collagen, and elastin to make repairs and regrow skin and tissue. It even helps to generate a fresh layer of skin. The new layer would be more uniform in color and texture, displacing the dark spots and marks. That’s why the procedure is often called Collagen Induction Therapy. In about a week, old layers of skin will start to dry and shed as fresh new cells take their place. Over the course of a week or two, there would be a significant improvement in the overall skin tone and complexion.

Light Acid Peels: Here acids are used at light or strong concentrations depending on the skin to be treated. It’s used to treat fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone and dryness. One might have a light peel every two to five weeks. The results of a chemical peel treatment plan will depend on the time and commitment to consistent treatment and at-home care.

Most of the time, the frequency at which one should repeat facial rejuvenation is based on the treatment that had undergone.
